St. Louis Stump Removal

After a tree is removed, a stump with roots often remains in the ground. These stumps take decades to fully decompose and rot away. Our comprehensive services include the removal of tree stumps and leveling the area to match the surrounding yard, making it ready for future planting.

Stump Grinding vs. Stump Removal

For most homeowners who care deeply about their lawns, stump removal is not the preferred option. This process involves extracting the entire stump and its attached roots, typically requiring heavy-duty equipment like a Bobcat. Moreover, tree roots can spread across a significant yard area, leading to considerable soil disruption. Generally, property owners only consider complete stump removal when clearing land for building, where aesthetic concerns are less important.

In contrast, stump grinding is a more manageable option for homeowners. This method focuses on grinding the stump to ground level without removing all the tree roots. We use a grinder to shave the remaining portion of the tree trunk until it is flush with the ground. Although stump grinding will leave a hole in your yard, it is much smaller and less invasive than the hole created by complete stump removal.

Stump Removal Pricing & Procedure

We price our stump removal based on the tree’s diameter at its widest point, located at the tree’s ground level. Pricing also depends on whether you want us to haul the stump debris away or leave it onsite.

Herbicidal Stump Treatment

In some cases, stumps may continue to grow and cause problems for your yard. In these cases, we typically recommend herbicidal treatment, which prevents continued stump growth. This is a beneficial solution when the stump is inaccessible to our stump grinder, such as when it grows very close to a deck, fence, or other infrastructure. Herbicidal Stump Treatment vs. Stump Removal

At Jackson Tree Service, we have years of experience and are frequently asked, “What is the difference between normal stump removal and Herbicidal stump treatment?”  We answer that there are usually a lot of differences, but both plans end with getting rid of your stump. Herbicidal stump treatment is a chemical process that disrupts stump growth, and we usually recommend it at our customer’s request or if the stump is in a spot where our machine can’t fit. Stump herbicide stops stump growth; it will not destroy the stump. Traditional stump removal is usually our first recommendation if the stump is in a good location, and that’s because it gets rid of the stump quickly while also getting all visible roots out of there.
